TB-500 is a laboratory label applied to a short synthetic peptide that is widely described as a fragment of thymosin beta-4, an actin-binding protein present in most mammalian cells. Suppliers and review articles usually present TB-500 as the N-terminal region of that protein, but the exact sequence attached to the name is not consistent across sources. Some product descriptions list a seven-residue chain; others use the label loosely for the parent protein itself. Because of that variation, any technical discussion of TB-500 needs to state which sequence is meant.
Thymosin beta-4 contains 43 amino acids and has a reported molecular mass near 4963 Da. The short fragment most often associated with the TB-500 label, an acetylated chain beginning LKKTETQ, has a reported mass near 889 Da, so the two are easily separated in analytical work. Mass spectrometry and amino acid analysis can confirm which material is present in a given sample. Statements treating TB-500 and thymosin beta-4 as interchangeable are therefore imprecise, even though the two appear together in much of the same literature.
Once in solution, short peptides are generally less stable than the dry powder, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles are a common cause of loss. Laboratory guidance usually calls for aliquoting on first dissolution and storing aliquots at -20 °C or below, away from light. Adsorption to plastic and glass surfaces can lower measured concentration, particularly at low concentrations, so container material and buffer choice can affect results. Visible cloudiness, colour change or unexpected precipitate is a signal to re-check the material.
Purity is normally assessed by reversed-phase HPLC, with the main peak reported as a percentage of total peak area, while identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry. Electrospray and MALDI-TOF instruments are both used, and the observed mass is compared with the value calculated from the stated sequence. Ion-exchange or size-exclusion methods appear where aggregation or charge variants are of interest. Water content, counter-ion content and residual trifluoroacetate from purification are separate variables that can shift the measured mass and should be weighed when reading a certificate of analysis.
Research peptides are typically supplied as a white to off-white lyophilised powder in a sealed vial. The dry solid is more stable than a solution and is normally kept refrigerated or frozen until use. Dissolution is usually done in water, phosphate-buffered saline or a similar aqueous medium, depending on the assay. Because the material is hygroscopic and easily contaminated, opening vials in a low-humidity environment and recording the lot number before use are standard laboratory practices.

Interest in the peptide grew during the 2000s and 2010s, when studies of tendon and ligament injuries in horses reported changes in lesion size after treatment. Those reports circulated widely outside the scientific literature and shaped much of the current online discussion. Subsequent reviews noted inconsistent study design, small groups, and a shortage of independent replication. Popular descriptions often blur the line between the fragment, the complete protein, and unrelated growth factors, which complicates comparisons across sources.
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide whose sequence corresponds to a short fragment near the N-terminus of thymosin beta-4, a small protein present in most mammalian cells. The fragment is commonly cited as containing the actin-binding region of the parent molecule, which is why it appears in laboratory work on cell migration and tissue repair. Suppliers distribute it as a lyophilised powder intended for research use. Its identity is defined by amino acid sequence and by the presence of an acetyl group on the N-terminal residue.
Full-length thymosin beta-4 consists of roughly forty-three amino acids and ranks among the more abundant small proteins in the cytoplasm. The fragment is much shorter, so it cannot reproduce every function attributed to the intact molecule. In cell culture, short actin-binding motifs can interfere with filament dynamics and cell movement, but such observations come from controlled experiments rather than from whole-animal work. Whether a truncated fragment produces the same effects as the parent protein remains an open question.
Lyophilised material is stable for extended periods when kept dry and cold, and suppliers typically recommend storage well below freezing. Once dissolved, the peptide is handled at refrigeration temperatures and used within a short period, because peptide bonds and the acetylated terminus can be affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles, proteases, or extreme pH. Bacteriostatic water and saline are both described as solvents, although preservatives can interfere with some analytical workflows. Reconstituted solutions are inspected for particulates before use.
Sports authorities classify the peptide as a prohibited substance, and it appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency list under peptide hormones, growth factors, and related substances. Racing jurisdictions for horses and dogs have issued separate restrictions, and several national bodies treat it as a controlled or prescription-only item. As a research chemical it is sold without a therapeutic indication, and labels usually state that the product is not for human or veterinary use. Regulatory treatment therefore varies by country.
TB-500 is a research peptide whose sequence matches residues 17 to 23 of thymosin beta-4, a 43-residue protein present in most mammalian cells. The chain is seven amino acids long, written as LKKTETQ, and is normally supplied with an acetyl group on the N-terminus. Suppliers list it as a lyophilised powder under the code name TB-500, and the same sequence appears elsewhere in catalogues as the thymosin beta-4 actin-binding fragment. The label is commercial rather than systematic, so no single authority fixes exactly what TB-500 denotes.
Thymosin beta-4 was isolated from calf thymus in the early 1980s and later characterised as an abundant intracellular actin-sequestering protein. Interest in short synthetic fragments grew once the actin-binding motif had been mapped to the middle of the sequence. TB-500 came out of that line of work as a truncated analogue rather than a natural isolate, and it is now sold mainly to laboratories. Published studies on the fragment have been largely in vitro or in animal models, and controlled human trials remain sparse, so claims about effects in people rest on extrapolation.
Lyophilised peptide powders are hygroscopic, and the fragment absorbs atmospheric moisture when a vial is opened at room temperature. Weighing and aliquoting are normally done quickly in a dry environment, and stock solutions are divided into single-use portions before freezing. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided because they promote aggregation and can shift the measured content of a vial. These practices are general to synthetic peptides rather than unique to this sequence, but they matter more for short chains kept for long periods.
The seven-residue chain carries several polar and charged side chains, so it dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffers near neutral pH. No cysteine is present, so disulphide formation is not a concern and reducing agents are unnecessary. Dilute ammonium hydroxide or acetonitrile-water mixtures are sometimes used for stock solutions when initial dissolution is slow. Strongly alkaline conditions and prolonged contact with oxidising agents are avoided because they can modify lysine-containing stretches, and haze in solution usually signals incomplete dissolution or aggregated material.
Identity and purity are checked with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the target sequence from truncated or deletion analogues, and with mass spectrometry, which confirms the expected molecular mass. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping give orthogonal confirmation but are used less often outside specialist laboratories. Counter-ion content varies: material purified on trifluoroacetic acid gradients retains trifluoroacetate, and ion exchange can convert the salt form. Residual water and solvent are measured by Karl Fischer titration or thermogravimetric analysis, and any purity figure should be read together with the method used to obtain it.

While genome annotation is primarily based on sequence similarity (and thus homology), other properties of sequences can be used to predict the function of genes. In fact, most gene function prediction methods focus on protein sequences as they are more informative and more feature-rich. For instance, the distribution of hydrophobic amino acids predicts transmembrane segments in proteins. However, protein function prediction can also use external information such as gene (or protein) expression data, protein structure, or protein–protein interactions. Evolutionary biology is the study of the origin and descent of species, as well as their change over time. Informatics has assisted evolutionary biologists by enabling researchers to:
MAAs are able to absorb UV light. A study published in 1976 demonstrated that an increase in MAA content was associated with an increase in photosynthetic respiration. Further studies done in marine cyanobacteria showed that the MAAs synthesized in response to UV-B correlated with an increase in photosynthetic pigments. Though not absolute proof, these findings do implicate MAAs as accessory pigments to photosynthesis. The eyes for the mantis shrimp contain four different kinds of mycosporine-like amino acids as filters, which combined with two different visual pigments assist the eye to detect six different bands of ultraviolet light. Three of the filter MAAs are identified with porphyra-334, mycosporine-gly, and gadusol.
D-Ribose-L-cysteine is used as an ingredient in several commercially marketed dietary supplements, particularly products promoted for general antioxidant support and cellular health. The primary commercial producers and distributors include Max International, Inc. and LiveMax, LLC. Proponents of D-ribose-L-cysteine reference its patented chemical structure and the results of laboratory and animal investigations demonstrating increased glutathione production under experimental conditions. However, independent medical experts generally emphasize that evidence of clinical benefit in humans remains insufficient, noting the absence of large-scale randomized trials or systematic reviews establishing long-term health outcomes of glutathione-related supplementation in healthy populations.

Each nucleotide in RNA contains a ribose sugar, with carbons numbered 1' through 5'. A base is attached to the 1' position, in general, adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), or uracil (U). Adenine and guanine are purines, and cytosine and uracil are pyrimidines. A phosphate group is attached to the 3' position of one ribose and the 5' position of the next. The phosphate groups have a negative charge each, making RNA a charged molecule (polyanion). The bases form standard hydrogen bonds between cytosine and guanine and between adenine and uracil, while guanine and uracil can pair through a non-canonical G–U wobble base pair. However, other interactions are possible, such as a group of adenine bases binding to each other in a bulge, or the GNRA tetraloop that has a guanine–adenine base-pair.

11-Deoxycortisol in mammals has limited biological activity and mainly acts as metabolic intermediate within the glucocorticoid pathway, leading to cortisol. However, in sea lampreys, an early jawless fish species that originated over 500 million years ago, 11-deoxycortisol is the primary and ultimate glucocorticoid hormone with mineralocorticoid properties; 11-deoxycortisol also takes part, by binding to specific corticosteroid receptors, in intestinal osmoregulation in sea lamprey at metamorphosis, during which they develop seawater tolerance before downstream migration. Sea lampreys do not possess the 11β-hydroxylase enzyme (CYP11B1) responsible for converting 11-deoxycortisol to cortisol and 11-deoxycorticosterone to corticosterone, as observed in mammals. The absence of this enzyme in sea lampreys indicates the existence of a complex and highly specific corticosteroid signaling pathway that emerged at least 500 million years ago with the advent of early vertebrates. The lack of cortisol and corticosterone in sea lampreys suggests that the presence of the 11β-hydroxylase enzyme may have been absent during the early stages of vertebrate evolution. The absence of cortisol and corticosterone in sea lampreys suggests that the 11β-hydroxylase enzyme may not have been present early in vertebrate evolution.
90. ArXiv [Preprint]. 2026 Jul 29:arXiv:2605.17186v2. Operator splitting for exploiting linear-rate closure in solving infinite ODE hierarchies. Chang JC. We introduce an operator-splitting method for infinite hierarchies of linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) indexed by nonnegative integers. When the coupling coefficients depend linearly on the count index, an exact transformation closes the equations on finite count-index windows without an upper-boundary value. For more general hierarchies, Strang splitting applies the linear-rate closure during the linear-rate substeps and a conventional capped solver to the remainder. We derive the closure from generating functions and the method of characteristics and extend it to multi-indexed systems. The derivation requires neither positivity nor mass conservation, so it applies to a wider class of systems than the examplar stochastic models presented here. We discuss branching processes, stochastic predator-prey dynamics, the Schlögl chemical kinetics model, and a telegraph model for gene expression. Through numerical experiments and computational cost analyses we demonstrate that our operator splitting method is typically advantageous for solving large scale systems in terms of memory usage and computational time, while retaining accuracy competitive with finite state projection (FSP) methods. To meet the NADPH and ATP demands in the mesophyll and bundle sheath, light needs to be harvested and shared between two distinct electron transfer chains. ATP may be produced in the bundle sheath mainly through cyclic electron flow around Photosystem I, or in the mesophyll mainly through linear electron flow, depending on the light available in the bundle sheath or in the mesophyll. The relative requirement of ATP and NADPH in each type of cell will depend on the photosynthetic subtype. The apportioning of excitation energy between the two cell types will influence the availability of ATP and NADPH in the mesophyll and bundle sheath. For instance, green light is not strongly adsorbed by mesophyll cells and can preferentially excite bundle sheath cells, or vice versa for blue light. Because bundle sheaths are surrounded by mesophyll, light harvesting in the mesophyll will reduce the light available to reach bundle sheath cells. Also, the bundle sheath size limits the amount of light that can be harvested.

Studies indicate that a substantial part of the modern vehicle's value comes from intelligent systems, and that these represent most of the current automotive innovation. To facilitate this, the modern automotive engineering process has to handle an increased use of mechatronics. Configuration and performance optimization, system integration, control, component, subsystem and system-level validation of the intelligent systems must become an intrinsic part of the standard vehicle engineering process, just as this is the case for the structural, vibro-acoustic and kinematic design. This requires a vehicle development process that is typically highly simulation-driven.
Apical dominance occurs when the shoot apex inhibits the growth of lateral buds so that the plant may grow vertically. It is important for the plant to devote energy to growing upward so that it can get more light to undergo photosynthesis. If the plant utilizes available energy for growing upward, it may be able to outcompete other individuals in the vicinity. Plants that were capable of outcompeting neighboring plants likely had higher fitness. Apical dominance is therefore most likely adaptive. Typically, the end of a shoot contains an apical bud, which is the location where shoot growth occurs. The apical bud produces a plant hormone, auxin (IAA), that inhibits growth of the lateral buds further down on the stem towards the axillary bud. Auxin is predominantly produced in the growing shoot apex and is transported throughout the plant via the phloem and diffuses into lateral buds which prevents elongation. That auxin likely regulates apical dominance was first discovered in 1934. When the apical bud is removed, the lowered IAA concentration allows the lateral buds to grow and produce new shoots, which compete to become the lead growth.

In the June 2, 2020, mayoral election, Jones defeated fellow council member Heather Robinett. Jones succeeded incumbent James Knowles III, a Republican who was unable to seek re-election due to term limits. On June 17, 2020, Jones was sworn in as the first black and female mayor of Ferguson. On April 4 2023, Jones was re-elected as mayor of Ferguson, winning a second term by 21 votes. She is also a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
CAMP is an acronym for "Christie–Atkins–Munch-Peterson", for the three researchers who discovered the phenomenon. In their 1944 report, F. H. Christie (Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, Melbourne), L. J. Atkinson (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Melbourne), and L. Munch‑Petersen (Veterinary/Animal Health Research Laboratory) described the hemolytic phenomenon now known as the CAMP test. It is often incorrectly reported as the product of four people (counting Munch-Petersen as two people). The true relationship (three people) is the reason for two en dashes and then one hyphen in Christie–Atkins–Munch-Petersen. The name of the test bears no relationship to the name of the second messenger cyclic adenosine monophosphate (commonly referred to as cAMP).

No. TB-500 is a trade-style label used for a synthetic peptide described as a fragment of thymosin beta-4, while thymosin beta-4 is the full 43-residue protein. The two differ in size and are not interchangeable terms in analytical work.
Naming for research peptides is not standardised, and suppliers sometimes apply the same label to different chain lengths. Certificates of analysis and mass data are the practical way to determine what a given lot contains.
The fragment commonly cited under this label is reported near 889 Da, and the parent protein near 4963 Da. Reported values shift with the exact sequence and with residual counter-ions or water in the sample.
Sealed, desiccated and protected from light, at -20 °C or lower for long-term storage. Short-term storage at refrigerator temperature is common in working laboratories.
